there's a black man in the white house
It's not that I dislike Obama, it's that I dislike everybody who is obsessed with him, his colour, and the fact that we, the USA, have a "black president". Sure, Obama is black (don't even try to give me that "he's half black" bullshit), it IS a historic moment as he is our first "black president", but are we really that ignorant that we need a black president to show ourselves, and the rest of the world how far we have come? Because it sure as hell seems as if that is what everyone is out to prove. If they weren't, they'd be just as unaffected as myself. Having a black man for a president doesn't phase me one bit. HELLO! i live a normal nine-to-five life (if you will), and i know VERY WELL how much this country has changed. Granted, I wasn't growing up when segregation, slavery, and whatever else was truly a part of every day life, but it's not like there hasn't been change in MY lifetime; and having a black man as a president i recognise IS one of those changes. But it's all relative. We had been working up to this— IT'S NOT THAT AMAZING! GET OVER IT! Clearly anyone who has sunken so low to be swept up in this "historic moment" is a fool trying to prove to themselves, and everyone else, how much they, as a community, have improved. The whites want to prove they have become more tolerant, the blacks want to prove they have gained more equality and power, the mixed race people want to prove they have a place too, everyone else, pick a side. Anyone who could care less about the fact that there is a BLACK man in the WHITE house has nothing to prove to anyone. good on you!
